English:
This Bangladeshi writer / poet became famous in France for her struggle with women rights in her country, Bangladesh.
After having listened one of her interviews on a French radio called France Inter (some years ago), I was really amazed by this woman, with her strong words, her lucidity... Therefore, I really wanted to read her writings.
Chronologically, I have read:
- « Women », her collection of poetry "WOMEN" (love and fighting women);
- « Lajja » (« shame », this novel was forbidden in Bangladesh because of its contents);
- Several short stories;
- « Childhood » - first part of her autobiography (it’s my favourite book!);
- "Wild wind", second part of her autobiography;
- "Rumeurs de haine", third part of her autobiography (Excellent! Strong emotions in it ! Taslima Nasreen knows a lot how to retranscribe emotions and facts);
- "French lover", a novel (I was obliged to read it in English because the French version was not made);
- "From my jail” (her last book).
Besides her courage, what else should I think and tell about her talent?
Taslima Nasrin is often criticized by Bengalis journalists that don’t consider her a good writer. Some (gossipers?) say that she is as brave as Salman Rushdie (I have not read any of his books yet), but without his talent.
After having read her books, I don’t understand how people can catalogue her as a bad writer, the only possible reason for me is that she doesn’t sell any books. Is it a good reason?
In my mind, Taslima Nasreen is a brave woman and a great writer too. Her problem is that she must face the worldwide chauvinist male system.
Taslima Nasreen is, for me, an avant-garde woman.
Don’t give up writing, Taslima! Go on! Someday, you will be recognized as a great writer!
- "Femmes", son recueil de poésie "FEMMES" (femmes d'amour et de combat) ;
- Lajja (son roman-document qui lui a valu une fatwa au Bangladesh à cause de son contenu) ;
- "Un retour" (une nouvelle) ;
- "Scènes de mariage" (une nouvelle) ;
- "Enfance au féminin", première partie de son autobiographie ( C'est mon livre fétiche!) ;
- "Vents en rafales", deuxième partie de son autobiographie ;
- "Rumeurs de haine", troisième opus de son autobiographie (Excellent ! Fort en émotion! Taslima Nasreen sait très bien retranscrire des émotions et des faits) ;
- "French lover", un roman (j'ai dû lire ce roman en anglais car la version française n'était pas éditée) ;

Taslima Nasreen is the greatest Bengali Woman forever in my eyes. She is the greatest because she is the bravest and brightest. She has spoken her mind freely with no fear or confusion. In our country, it is not only impossible for woman, but for man, too. Humayun Azad was a writer who wrote a book named "Pak Sar Zamin Sad Bad". He was threaten and later attacked by extremists. After a few months of the attack, he died. In his book, he described the sufferings of non-Muslims in our country what Taslima Nasreen had done previously in her book "Lajja" in 1994. And Humayun Azad had written his book after 2000, probably in 2001 or 2002. His book was not banned since it was written by a man. And also people had showed some emotions towards him and made him famous. We still think Humayun Azad is the first who protested. But the truth is - Taslima Nasreen protested first. For her protest, she was exiled.
RépondreSupprimerProtest is a thing we don't except from anybody here, at least not from a woman. People still think woman are for working in home and kitchen. And man are to lead the outside world!
They are still keeping their blind faiths.
We need a number of Taslima Nasreen and Humayun Azad to change our country.
Salute to Taslima Nasreen.
